Leonia is committed to helping residents enjoy the highest quality of life and to help save residents money while supporting green initiatives. The Borough has partnered with Eversolar, a local community solar provider sending clean energy to PSE&G, to help you save on your electric bill each month. Eversolar’s community solar projects utilize local warehouse rooftops and allow residents to access the benefits of solar without having to install panels on their roofs. With the New Jersey Community Solar Energy Program, both homeowners and renters are eligible for the program, and subscribers pay zero fees to participate in the program.
Eversolar’s community solar farms are expected to go live by this September, and you can start seeing savings on your utility bills by the end of this year. By enrolling through Leonia, you’ll help the state achieve its goal of 100% clean energy by 2050.
Here's how this community solar project can save you money:
1.When Eversolar’s project goes live, it will supply clean electricity to the electric grid.
2.Residents who subscribe will receive a share of the energy it produces each month in the form of solar credits.
3.Eversolar provides you guaranteed risk-free savings up to 45.25% off your PSE&G bill each month.
There is no charge to sign up for this program, no credit checks required, no panels to install, and you can cancel any time without penalty. For more information or to subscribe today, go to http://leonia.eversolar.com/ or call (888) 596-7741. Representatives are available to help answer your questions and help you apply.
Community Solar FAQs
Q: Isn’t this too good to be true?
A: We are so happy to share that it’s not (and we get that a lot)! This program is an NJ state program. The guaranteed discounts are mandated by the program, and developers like Eversolar are required to adhere to strict consumer protections.
Q: What are the program’s consumer protections?
A: No fee to start or stop your subscription, no credit checks, and guaranteed savings for 20 years per contract.
Q: How are there no upfront fees for community solar?
A: Community solar eliminates upfront fees by allowing you to subscribe to a solar project, saving you the cost of individual installation. Community solar developers build the projects so you can access clean energy without any upfront expenses.
Q: How does Eversolar make money?
A: We sell RECs (renewable energy credits) to the utilities and discounted solar credits to you.
Q: Is the customer subscription connected to the home or the person?
A: Unlike rooftop solar, community solar is connected to your utility account only. If you move within the same utility territory in NJ, you can take your subscription with you.
Q: What are the downsides of community solar? Can I participate if I already have rooftop solar?
A: This program is carefully designed to provide no-risk savings to NJ residents of all incomes. However, if you own your own home and can invest in rooftop panels, owning your own solar may generate more savings for you in the long run. As with any household decision, we recommend you consider your own situation carefully before choosing a clean energy solution.
Q: How do I save money with community solar?
A: When you subscribe to a community solar farm, you receive solar credits for your share of the clean energy the farm produces. You will receive these solar credits as savings on your utility bills automatically.
Q: How is this different from rooftop solar?
A: Rooftop solar has helped many in NJ, but over a million households are unable to participate, including all who rent their homes. New Jersey’s community solar program aims to make renewable energy accessible to anyone, offering risk-free participation with no ownership or maintenance of panels, no enrollment fees, and free cancellation, ensuring every NJ resident can support and benefit from clean energy.
Q: Why does Eversolar discount credits?
A: The NJ community solar program incentivizes developers to pass along the highest discounts possible to subscribers with a minimum discount percentage of 21%.
Q: What do customers need to have on hand to sign up?
A: Their utility account number and email address.
Q: Will I still be connected to the PSE&G electric grid? Could joining community solar affect blackouts?
A: Yes you’ll stay on the same PSE&G grid you’ve always been on. Community solar doesn’t change how your power is delivered- it only changes how it’s billed (with a discount). Your lights will stay on and off at the same times as your neighbors. If the grid ever goes down, your home will still be affected the same way, just like before.
A: Eversolar will batch applications together and send them to PSEG for review every 2 weeks. Then PSEG needs to review the account information. Therefore it can take up to 4 weeks to hear of your acceptance into the program. Once accepted, Eversolar will process a gift card that will be emailed to you.
