A Thanksgiving Message from Mayor Bill Ziegler

As we gather with family, friends, and loved ones this Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that we, as a community, have to be grateful for.  Serving as Mayor is a privilege, and it allows me to see firsthand the dedication, talent, and heart that make Leonia the special town that it is.

I am thankful for the men and women of our Department of Public Works.  Their work is often behind the scenes, but their impact is felt every single day.  They keep our streets clean and safe (particularly challenging during leaf pick up season and on snow days), maintain our parks and public spaces, and respond quickly whenever storms or emergencies challenge our town.

I am equally grateful for the Leonia Police Department.  Their professionalism, compassion and steady presence form the foundation of public safety in our borough.  They face challenges with a strong sense of duty and a commitment to the safety and security of every single resident.

To our volunteer firefighters, I want to express my deep appreciation.  You respond at all hours, in all conditions, motivated by service to your neighbors.  Your courage and dedication make Leonia safer despite personal risk.

Similarly, Borough Hall, our Recreation Department, Senior Center and Library are all staffed with dedicated professionals who remain committed to outstanding service to all Leonians.  I can’t say enough good things about our team.   These people help make Leonia what it is and why others aspire to be part of our community.

I am also grateful to our volunteer Councilmembers.  Their thoughtful debate, hard work, and willingness to confront difficult issues reflect a shared commitment to doing what is best for Leonia.  We may not agree on every detail, but we always agree on our mission to serve residents with integrity.

To the many town volunteers who give freely of their time on committees, commissions, boards and at community events, thank you.  Your efforts support our cultural programs, environmental initiatives, and the day-to-day life of our community.  You strengthen this town in countless ways.

The holiday reminds us that gratitude is not just a feeling – it’s an action.  It’s how we show up for one another, how we choose to invest in our community, and how we continue building a town that we’re proud to call home.

On behalf of the Borough of Leonia, I wish you and your families a warm, peaceful, and healthy Thanksgiving.

With gratitude,

Mayor Bill Ziegler

Storm Water Management
Help keep our waterways clean by doing your part to eliminate Nonpoint Source Pollution (People Pollution). Improperly discarded products eventually end up in our waterways where people drink and swim, and where wildlife lives. Some of these improperly disposed products enter into our sanitary sewer system and negatively affect the water treatment process.
