Borough of Leonia Awards EMS Contract to Englewood Hospital

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and the Borough of Leonia recently announced a new partnership that will provide dedicated Englewood Hospital emergency medical services (EMS) to borough residents. The one-year ambulance contract, which started October 1, was unanimously approved by the Mayor and Council following a three-month review of Request for Proposals from the Medical Center and four other competing medical service providers.

As part of the new agreement, Englewood Hospital will provide routine medical transport, critical care and 9-1-1 aid. A dedicated Englewood Hospital ambulance will be available in Leonia twenty-four hours each and every day. There is absolutely no charge for this service for Leonia residents whether or not they have health care insurance. Additionally, the free service is extended to Borough employees and volunteers and also includes all students while in attendance at any of the Leonia Public Schools. Englewood Hospital EMS will provide Leonia residents with the highest level of service through the latest emergency medical care, public education and health awareness.

Englewood Hospital operates the second largest hospital-based ambulance system in Bergen County. The Medical Center’s fleet of ambulances, which features extensive equipment essential to providing care for patients in life-threatening or emergency situations, doubled in 2008, and plans are underway to add an additional vehicle to meet the increasing demand for pre-hospital emergency medical care.

In addition to providing mutual aid service to Bergen County, Englewood Hospital has partnered with the City of Englewood to provide back-up ambulance coverage, EMT and CPR training, and medical oversight.
